The United Kingdom Intersex Association (UKIA) is an education, advocacy, campaigning and support organisation which works on behalf of intersexed people.

Intersexed people are individuals born with anatomy or physiology which differs from contemporary ideals of what constitutes "normal" male and female.

UKIA has the following aims:

  • to educate, inform and campaign in order to remove the shame, secrecy, social prejudice, ignorance and stigmatization which surround intersexed conditions.
  • to campaign against the use of surgery and other medical treatments for coercing intersexed people to physically conform to cultural definitions of "normal".
  • to campaign against the widespread practise of witholding information from intersexed people regarding their conditions.

UKIA wishes to thank ISNA, CISAE and Professor Milton Diamond for support and assistance
